The essence of the riad: a secret garden
The word riad, from the Arabic riyāḍ, means “garden”. It is the name traditionally given to old Moroccan homes built around an inner courtyard, often adorned with a fountain, a pool of water or a small swimming pool.
More than a simple architectural choice, the courtyard represents the soul of the home. The rooms face inward, and the spaces are designed to shield guests from the pace and noise of the city, creating a secluded place where light, water, greenery and silence exist in perfect balance.
These homes are part of the history of Morocco’s medinas, especially in the imperial cities of Marrakech and Fez. In recent decades, many have been transformed into elegant guesthouses and boutique riads that reinterpret traditional building techniques and materials with a contemporary sensibility.

Opened in 2023, completely renovated, Riad Bijoux was created to pair traditional architecture with understated, elegant contemporary style.

Riad Bijoux is located near Bab Aylan, one of the Medina’s ancient gates. This privileged location gives you access to a part of the city that remains largely untouched by mass tourism and deeply connected to its traditions. Here, away from the busiest neighbourhoods, you can discover the real Marrakech: small souks, artisan workshops, fruit and vegetable markets, the scent of spices and sweets, and the daily rhythm of local life, with large families, children returning from school and small neighbourhood mosques.
At the same time, the famous Jemaa el-Fna square is about a 20-minute walk away, making it easy to explore all the city’s main attractions.
